Many traditional Halloween activities are a risk to spreading COVID-19, so here are some suggestions the CDC has stay safe this spooky season.

USA TODAY

The Florida Department of Health Friday reported five more people on the Treasure Coast have died of COVID-19 and 76 new people have been diagnosed, in an unknown time frame.

The deaths — four in St. Lucie County and one in Indian River — likely occurred weeks ago, but weren’t reported until the state completed its investigations.

Those who died ranged in age from 69 to 92, and there were two men and three women.

That brings the Treasure Coast’s death toll to 590 people and number of cases to 17,153 since the coronavirus pandemic’s onset in March, according to the data.

Health officials have said the virus is not necessarily the cause of deaths, but the state records people who at some point tested positive for the virus and later die.

An ever-evolving investigative process, virus data — including cases, deaths and positivity rates — can change as epidemiologists and health officials discover discrepancies on a case-by-case basis, according to local health departments.
